Aloha

Aloha, I’m Julie, the founder, owner and teacher of North Shore SUP Yoga!

I am an adventure seeking, nature loving yogi who moved from the 1st state to the 50th state to make my dreams come true! Originally from Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, I traveled to the Caribbean and lived in Puerto Rico for 6 years where I worked in water sports. I immediately fell in love with paddleboarding! Gently gliding on top of the ocean, I discovered a new love and appreciation for the sea. In 2012, I was introduced to the beautiful practice of yoga, which sparked a new passion! I loved taking classes at El Faro in Rincón, overlooking the Caribbean Ocean, with whales breaching, birds chirping, the sun beaming down and the wind in the palm trees. I decided I mostly liked practicing yoga outdoors in nature, preferably by the ocean. Eventually, I left Puerto Rico to keep traveling and practicing yoga around the world.

In 2019, I received my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Certification with Akasha Yoga Academy in Ubud, Bali Indonesia. Shortly after my return to the United States, the pandemic hit, and I was unable to use my new certification to teach yoga as I had planned. After a year of stagnation, I felt inspired to make change. I moved to the North Shore of O’ahu, Hawai’i with intentions to start over; change scenery, change habits, change careers, change my life.

I knew I wanted to do something outside and preferably on the ocean here in Hawai’i, so I combined my two biggest passions into one: Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga. I took one SUP Yoga class and shortly after, I enrolled and completed my 30-hour SUP Yoga Teacher Training with Yoga Kai Hawai’i. I taught for them for over a year before I switched to Yoga Floats. I still teach for Yoga Floats in Honolulu at Ala Moana Beach Park on Mondays and sometimes Fridays for their Light Up the Night classes! (So if you’re in town, sign up to join me one of those evenings!)

I love teaching SUP Yoga more than anything, so I decided to start my own company closer to where I live! This is how North Shore SUP Yoga came to light. I hope to continue to share my passion for the ocean, paddleboarding and yoga on the water with you soon!

ABSOLUTLEY AMAZING!!!!!!! just what an experience. Julie is an incredible teacher and really knows how to welcome her students in the class. I'm an experienced SUP yoga student, and its really hard to find something on the island that isn't just for beginners. But Julie does her class that includes EVERYONE. She makes it easy for beginners, while also suggesting different variations for intermediate and advanced students. I've done other classes with Yoga Floats and Coral SUP Yoga, but her class in North Shore by far killed it!!! Those other companies didn't even come close. Plus, she does it on the beautiful river that has a bunch of turtles! So not only is the water calm, which makes it way easier to do SUP Yoga than in the wavy ocean, it also has beautiful scenery and turtles that come right up to you! If they don't come to you during class, she ensures that we paddle a bit to find some :) HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!! She even does evening glow paddles and yoga that light up the river with beautiful colors on the boards, which attract even more turtles! I loved the class so much, that I literally made the drive AGAIN the next morning. I would have done even more classes but I had to leave the next day :(
